What will you do

Originally started as a diesel service company, this company has grown to become the largest shipyard on the Belgian coast. With a large team of experienced employees, they offer a full range of services in ship repair, ship maintenance and the manufacture and installation of maritime offshore and onshore structures. They are the reference for everything related to welding, mechanical maintenance, refit and renewal of ships, drydocking of ships, machining, crane rental, stainless steel and alu construction and so much more. Their mission is to excel in marine repairs, maintenance & renewal construction in domain of engineering, welding and mechanics. To be a highly qualified competence center for both offshore and onshore structures and general welding. They want to further grow into an important hub in the field of ship maintenance and ship repair along the North Sea coast. Whether it concerns a small tugboat or a large dredger, they want to make the difference for its customers through a flexible and committed attitude. In the field of welding, they want to further establish its name as the contact point for production and installation of all possible high-quality steel constructions or welding work both onshore and offshore.

We are looking for a conventional turner to strengthen the team in Brugge. Turning and milling at Gardec is something different every day and custom work every time. The main focus are conventional machines, though they also have CNC machines. You need the basis of conventional turning/milling. The work takes place in the workshop in Zeebrugge, but occasionally also on other locations. Your main focus is the repairing of existing components and not necessarily starting a production process from scratch. Your responsibilities include the following: • Set up and operate conventional turning machines to perform precision turning operations. • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to understand project specifications. • Machine and fabricate metal components for maritime equipment, ensuring adherence to quality standards. These are all unique pieces, every day something different, big or small. • Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality, making adjustments as necessary. • You perform repairs on ships, on constructions.... • You make new, non-standardized parts of machine tools. The pieces you work with are relatively big.

What are your skills

What is your experience

• You have a strong technical insight, you need to recognize the defect in the parts and how you can impact wear and tear of materials. • You need to be able to read and interpret technical drawings, as well as repair items without having a technical drawing. • You are familiar with manual measuring techniques (micrometer, compass, caliper etc.). • You have a couple of years of experience as a conventional turner or miller.

What is your education level

You have a mechanical degree. We are looking for people with a hands-on mentality.

Language expectations

Communicative English skills at a B2-C1 level are required for this job, this is the language you will communicate in.

What our client offers

• You work 38 hours a week, but are willing to do 7-12 hours of overtime every week (paid at 150% or as a compensation day). • The gross hourly starting salary is between €17 and €20, depending on your experience. This is negotiable. • The shift hours are 8:00-16:30 from monday to thursday. Friday you work from 8:00 to 14:30. • You are paid monthly. • A lot of extralegal benefits like hospitalisation insurance, and a phone if this is requested.
